Growing demand for greener residential buildings in Australia and worldwide

The building, construction, and renovation sector accounts for almost a quarter of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and produces up to 12.7 megatonnes of waste every single year.

Approximately 60% of our construction materials are imported from a single source country and this sets the industry in a downward cycle for using a cheap supply chain and increasing local market shortages due to the current pandemic. This is an industry problem that creates more long-term problems when the quality of imported materials fail the test of time and/or do not meet compliance standards in Australia.

Renovators and homebuilders are increasingly asking for better quality and low-impact products, which create long-lasting comfort and well-being. According to the ‘Research & Markets Global Report 2020’, the global market for Green Building Materials is estimated at US$238 billion (2020) and is projected to reach US$425.4 billion by 2027 and led by countries such as Australia, India, and South Korea. The market in Asia-Pacific is forecast to reach US$60.8 billion by the same year.

These numbers underline the growing prominence of energy-efficient, smart, and green constructions that drive strong demand for green building materials. The consumer expects high performance and quality while asking for more regenerative products that are low-impact and consider social and ethical values.
